Privacy Policy
What we collect, why, and the control you have over it.
1. Data We Collect
Apothy is an AI companion app. To provide it, we collect the following categories of information:
- Account information. Your email address and, if you sign in with Apple or Google, the name and email associated with that account. We use this to create and secure your account.
- Your conversations. The messages you send to Apothy and the responses generated for you. These are stored so your history and context are available to you across sessions.
- Reflections and mood information. Content you create in features such as mood tracking, Dreamfield, and saved memories, including emotional context you choose to share. This can include information about your feelings and wellbeing.
- Voice input. If you use speech to text, your device performs the transcription and we receive the resulting text, which is treated like any other message.
- Purchase information. Your subscription status and purchase history, processed through the app stores and our subscription provider.
- Device and usage information. Device identifiers, app interactions, approximate region (from IP address), and an advertising identifier where applicable.
- Diagnostics. Crash reports and error logs that help us keep the app stable.
2. How We Use Your Data
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide the core service, including generating AI responses and optional voice
- Maintain your conversation history and personalize Apothy to you
- Process your subscription and manage entitlements
- Keep the service safe, including content moderation and abuse prevention
- Diagnose crashes and improve reliability and performance
- Measure usage so we can improve the product
- Show advertising to users on free plans
- Communicate with you about your account and support requests
3. AI Conversations and Sensitive Topics
To generate responses, the content of your messages is sent to our AI processing provider (OpenAI) and, when you use voice, the text of a response is sent to our voice provider (ElevenLabs) to be spoken aloud. These providers process the data to deliver the feature and under their agreements with us do not use your content to train their own models.
Apothy is designed for reflection and support. It is not a medical device, and it does not provide medical, psychological, or crisis services. If you are in crisis or need professional help, please contact a qualified professional or your local emergency services.
4. Data Sharing and Service Providers
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with service providers who process it on our behalf to operate the app, and only as needed for the purposes described here. These include:
- OpenAI:AI processing of conversation content
- ElevenLabs:text to speech for voice responses
- Google Firebase:analytics and crash reporting
- Sentry:error and performance monitoring
- RevenueCat and the Apple App Store / Google Play:subscriptions and payments
- Apple and Google:sign in
- Google AdMob and Meta:advertising (see section 5)
We may also disclose information where required by law, to protect our rights and users, or in connection with a business transfer.
5. Advertising
Users on free plans may see advertising delivered through Google AdMob and Meta. These partners may use device and advertising identifiers to show and measure ads. On iOS we ask for your permission before any tracking that uses the advertising identifier, and you can change this at any time in your device settings. Paid subscribers do not see advertising.
6. Data Security
We encrypt data in transit and apply appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your data and to limit who can access it.
7. Data Retention and Deletion
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. You can delete your account from within the app, which removes your conversations, reflections, and associated personal data from our systems, and requests deletion from the providers that process data on our behalf. Some records may be retained where required by law or for legitimate business purposes such as financial records.
8. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can manage and delete your data in the app, or contact us using the details below. You can also opt out of non essential communications at any time.
9. Children's Privacy
Apothy is not directed to children. The app is intended for users aged 18 and over, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.
11. Changes and Contact
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. If you have any questions about this policy or your data, contact us at privacy@apothyai.com.
